What is Sugaring? Sugaring is an ancient art of hair removal using a completely natural paste made from lemon, sugar and water. It looks like honey, but is even thicker. The paste is molded onto your skin against the direction of the hair growth, then quickly flicked off – removing the sugar paste, extracting your unwanted hair, and collecting dead skin cells. This ancient hand technique that allows for the hair to be extracted in the direction of it’s growth means less breakage and discomfort for you! The formula is made of only natural and organic ingredients and is easily cleaned up with warm water. No sticky residue left behind on your body. There are no waxes or resin in the unique sugar paste and since sugar is a natural preservative, bacteria cannot grow, so no cross contamination. It is more sanitary and reduces waste because there are no sticks or strips. After your service, the paste and gloves are discarded and you are left with beautifully smooth skin.
How long should my hair be? Best results happen with hair at least 1/8" long, but can be removed starting at 1/16th. The hair should be long enough to pinch and pull with your fingers. Less pain is experienced when hair is shorter since there is less pulling with the application of the sugar.
Can I be sugared if on Accutane or Retin-A? These both exfoliate and/or thin the skin. Accutane must be completely stopped for six months prior to sugaring, and Retin-A is on a individual basis . When in doubt ask your doctor.
Is there anytime I should not get Sugared? Sunburns, antibiotics, chemical peels, or anytime your skin has been compromised.
Can I get sugared while I'm pregnant? Of course! Although, you may be a little more sensitive.
What should I do after being sugared? For 24 hours after your appointment, relax and keep the skin clean and free from friction. Avoid tanning for 48 hours. Your skin has been exfoliated from sugaring which increases your chances of sunburn or sun damage, so don't forget your sunscreen. Begin daily exfoliation a week after your appointment.
What happens if I have to reschedule or cancel? Sassafras Sugaring Studio is an appointment based business. When appointments are cancelled without sufficient notice we are often unable to fill that space with another client. We require 24 hours notice for any cancellation or reschedule. If you do not provide this notice, you will be charged 50% of the booked appointment cost. If you fail to cancel and don't show for your appointment, the full amount will be charged. Thank you for your understanding! I do understand that sometimes things come up. Just keep me posted!
